Our “Planet” rating evaluates brands based on the environmental policies in their supply chains, from carbon emissions to wastewater, ingredients' impacts, product circularity, and more. Here we rate Avril “Great”. These are a few factors influencing its score:

• It uses a medium proportion of lower-impact ingredients including certified organic ingredients.
• It offers at-home refills for some products but doesn't track and report on repeat purchases.
• It uses renewable energy in its direct operations (such as stores or offices) but not in its supply chain.
• It donates unsold products to charity.
• Some of its palm oil is RSPO-certified.

Workers’ rights are central to our “People” rating, which assesses brands’ policies and practices on everything from child labour to living wages and gender equality. Here we rate Avril “Not Good Enough”. These are a few factors influencing its score:

• Most of its final production stage happens in France, a medium country for labour abuse.
• There’s no evidence it has a Code of Conduct.
• It sources from suppliers who are audited against the Responsible Mica Initiative (RMI) Workplace Standard.
• There’s no evidence it ensures workers are paid living wages in its supply chain.

• It's certified as animal test-free by PETA.
