Our ratings are based on a scale from 1 (We avoid) to 5 (Great) How we rate

Our “Planet” rating evaluates brands based on the environmental policies in their supply chains, from carbon emissions to wastewater, ingredients' impacts, product circularity, and more. Here we rate L' Erbolario “It's a Start”. These are a few factors influencing its score:

  • It uses some lower-impact ingredients including certified organic ingredients.
  • It manufactures its products closer to home to reduce the climate impact of long-distance shipping.
  • It uses recycled packaging.
  • It publishes a policy to assess the biodegradability and environmental toxicity of all of its ingredients and formulas.
  • A medium proportion of its palm oil is certified by RSPO.

Workers’ rights are central to our “People” rating, which assesses brands’ policies and practices on everything from child labour to living wages and gender equality. Here we rate L' Erbolario “Not Good Enough”. These are a few factors influencing its score:

  • Its final production stage happens in Italy.
  • It audits some of its supply chain including all of the final production stage.
  • There’s no evidence it has a Code of Conduct.
  • It has an internal grievance mechanism for workers in its supply chain to anonymously report concerns like harassment and unpaid wages.
  • There’s no evidence it ensures workers are paid living wages in its supply chain.

Note that the "People" rating in Good On You’s methodology is defined by labour rights and does not consider consumer health.

Brands’ animal welfare policies and, where applicable, how well they trace their animal-derived products, are the focus of our “Animals” rating. Here we rate L' Erbolario “Good”. These are a few factors influencing its score:

  • It uses ingredients derived from insects (eg byproducts of the bee, snail and/or silk industries), but no other animal substances.
  • It claims to not test its ingredients or finished products on animals, but it is not certified.

Based on all the publicly available information we’ve reviewed, we rate L' Erbolario “It's a Start” overall.
