Akola Project's environmental rating is 'it's a start'. It creates high quality long lasting products. It uses a small portion of eco-friendly materials such as paper beads. It reduces its carbon footprint by hand-manufacturing its products but does not mention other energy policies. It uses non-toxic varnish to limit its use of hazardous chemicals but does not mention specific water reduction initiatives or policies.
Its labour rating is 'good'. It has a robust Supplier Code of Conduct which applies across the entire supply chain. It sources from countries with high or extreme risk of labour abuse but it ensures that a large proportion of its suppliers pay a living wage. It traces suppliers in all of its supply chain and publicly lists the countries of its suppliers. Some of its supply chain is independently audited. It is a brand created as a social enterprise, to assist in creating opportunity for disadvantaged people.
Its animal rating is 'it's a start'. It does not use wool, angora, fur, down or exotic animal skin or hair. However it uses leather, bone and cow horn without specifying its sources.
